Kids enjoy 'street style' party
Youngsters from Holy Cross and Allanson Street primary schools in St Helens celebrated the end of their World War II project with a 'street style' themed party.
The children have been working alongside Helena Extra tenants, learning all about what children their age went through during the war and they have also been speaking to their grandparents to hear about all of their memories.
They have learnt all about uniforms, gas masks and air raid shelters and even had an American Jeep brought to Allanson Street Primary school courtesy of the Heritage Centre at Burtonwood airbase.
The 'street style' party which celebrated the end of the project was held at the World of Glass (it was a bit too cold outside). The youngsters made Union Jack hats and listened to Winston Churchill's 'end of the war' speech before challenging their elders to a game of bingo.
Nikki Wilkinson, Activities Coordinator for Helena Homes said: "The project has been a huge success and not only have the children learnt a lot from the older generation, it has also been good for the older people to talk about their experiences."
